Remote Learning

At Sunnyside Primary Academy, we recognise that there may be times when children need to access their learning from home. Our Remote Learning Protocol outlines how we will continue to provide high-quality education, maintain safeguarding standards and ensure pupils, parents and staff are well supported during periods of home learning.

When Remote Learning Will Be Used

Remote learning will only be provided when:

  • The school (or a class/year group) is closed or attendance is disrupted.
  • An individual pupil is unable to attend school but is well enough to continue learning at home.

In all other circumstances, in-school attendance remains the expectation.

How Learning Will Be Delivered

  • Pupils will access lessons through Microsoft Teams
  • Teachers will upload lessons, activities and resources, and provide regular feedback.
  • Where digital access is a challenge, printed materials will be provided.

Roles and Expectations

  • Teachers will plan and deliver remote learning that mirrors classroom teaching as closely as possible.
  • Pupils are expected to engage fully, complete assigned work and behave appropriately during online sessions.
  • Parents and carers should support their child’s participation, help establish a suitable learning space at home, and contact school if technical or access issues arise.

Safeguarding and Online Safety

  • All online learning will take place using secure, school-approved platforms.
  • Pupils’ privacy will be protected, and staff will adhere to the school’s safeguarding policies and behaviour expectations.
  • Any concerns will be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead following normal procedures.

Monitoring and Feedback

Teachers will monitor engagement, provide feedback, and contact families where additional support may be needed to help pupils stay on track.

Our Commitment

We are committed to ensuring that every child continues to learn effectively, whether in school or at home. Together, we will maintain consistency, connection and care for all members of our school community.
