First Aid

At Sunnyside Primary Academy, the health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils, staff and visitors is of the utmost importance. While accidents can happen anywhere and at any time, we are committed to providing a safe environment and ensuring that appropriately trained staff are available to respond quickly and effectively when first aid is required.

Our First Aid Provision

All designated First Aiders within the Academy hold Level 3 Paediatric First Aid qualifications and are trained through Tigerlily Training. This ensures that staff have the knowledge and practical skills required to respond to a wide range of medical situations involving children.

First aid equipment is available throughout the school, and staff receive regular updates to maintain their knowledge and confidence.

Recording and Communicating Accidents

When a child receives first aid treatment, details are recorded using our electronic accident reporting system, Evolve First Aid.

Where appropriate, parents and carers will be informed of accidents, injuries or treatment provided. Communication is sent directly to the email address registered with the Academy, ensuring families are kept informed about any incidents involving their child.

Allergy Awareness

The Academy recognises the importance of supporting pupils with allergies and medical conditions. Staff are trained to respond appropriately to allergic reactions and follow the procedures outlined in our Allergy Policy.

A copy of the Allergy Policy can be found on our Policies page.

First Aid Education

We believe that first aid is an important life skill. As part of our curriculum, pupils are given opportunities to learn age-appropriate first aid knowledge and skills, helping them to develop confidence, responsibility and the ability to respond in an emergency.

Learning First Aid at Home

Research has shown that many adults lack the confidence to provide first aid in an emergency. We encourage parents, carers and families to develop their own first aid knowledge and skills.
