Free School Meals

Free School Meals

There is a statutory requirement for schools in England to provide free school meals to all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. This is to aid child development, support academic performance and improve levels of healthy eating.  However, eligible parents of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 should still apply for free school meals so that your children can access Pupil Premium funding.

For children in Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 you may be eligible for Free School Meals if you are in receipt of any of the following:

  • Income support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit
  • Universal Credit - income dependent
