Behaviour

At Sunnyside Primary Academy, we believe that all children deserve to learn in a calm, safe, and supportive environment. Our Behaviour Policy helps us to promote kindness, responsibility, and respect while maintaining high expectations across the school.

Our Approach

  • We teach and model positive behaviour.

  • Pupils are supported to take responsibility for their actions.

  • Behaviour expectations are consistent and fair for all.

  • We use a restorative approach to build relationships and prevent reoccurrence of negative behaviour.

What We Expect

All pupils are expected to:

  • Show respect to staff and each other.

  • Be ready to learn and behave responsibly.

  • Move calmly around school and take care of property.

  • Wear correct uniform and follow school routines.

  • Accept consequences for misbehaviour.

Encouraging Positive Behaviour

We use a 3-step reward system based on daily behaviour:

  • Green – Expected good behaviour.

  • Bronze, Silver, Gold – For behaviour that goes above and beyond, such as kindness, leadership, and excellent effort.

Rewards include:

  • Verbal praise and ClassCharts points

  • Certificates and celebration in assembly

  • Praise postcards and phone calls home

  • Roles of responsibility (e.g. School Council)

Termly Behaviour Rewards

Children who collect enough positive points over the term will be invited to take part in a special behaviour reward event, which recognises and celebrates consistently excellent behaviour.

Responding to Misbehaviour

We use a 4-step system to address poor behaviour:

  1. Reminder – A chance to correct behaviour.

  1. Blue – Behaviour logged; opportunity to improve.

  1. Yellow – Reflection time in another class; parent informed.

  1. Red – Serious or repeated behaviour; Senior Leader involvement.

Sanctions may include: loss of privileges, removal from class and in serious cases, suspensions.

Bullying

We do not tolerate bullying of any kind (physical, emotional, verbal, online, etc.). Our Anti-Bullying Policy outlines how we prevent and respond to incidents. All concerns are taken seriously.
