Admissions
We are pleased that you are considering Sunnyside Primary Academy for your child’s education. Parents and carers are welcome to visit the Academy; to arrange a visit, please contact the Academy office on 01604 842958.
Sunnyside Primary Academy provides education for children aged 4 to 11 living in Kingsthorpe and the surrounding area. We are a non-selective Academy and admit pupils without reference to ability or aptitude. Admission is not dependent on any voluntary contributions.
Sunnyside Primary Academy is part of Greenwood Academies Trust. The Trust is the Admissions Authority and has delegated the administration of admissions to West Northamptonshire Council (WNC).
Published Admission Number (PAN)
The Published Admission Number for Sunnyside Primary Academy is:
• 60 places in Reception (Year R)
Where applications exceed the number of places available, places are allocated in accordance with the oversubscription criteria set out below and in the Admissions Policy available at the bottom of this page.
Reception Applications (Normal Year of Entry)
Applications for a Reception place must be made through the West Northamptonshire Council co-ordinated admissions process.
For entry in September 2027:
• Application deadline: Midnight on 15 January 2027
• National Offer Day: 16 April 2027

Deferred Entry and Admission Outside the Normal Age Group
Parents and carers may choose to defer their child’s entry to Reception until later in the school year, or request part-time attendance, in line with statutory guidance. Entry may not be deferred beyond the point at which the child reaches compulsory school age, or beyond the start of the final term of the academic year for which the place is offered.
Requests for admission outside the normal age group, including for summer-born children, are considered on an individual basis by the Admissions Authority. Full details of how to make such a request are set out in Appendix 1 of the Admissions Policy.
In-Year Admissions
An in-year admission is an application for a school place made during the academic year or for a year group other than Reception at the normal point of entry.
All in-year applications are co-ordinated by West Northamptonshire Council and must be made using the in-year application form on their website: Making your in-year school application | West Northamptonshire Council
If the Academy is oversubscribed for an in-year admission, places will be allocated in accordance with the oversubscription criteria set out in the Admissions Policy.
Oversubscription Criteria
Where the number of applications exceeds the number of available places,e, priority is given in the following order:

Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
Where the EHCP names Sunnyside Primary Academy, these pupils are admitted first. -
Looked After and Previously Looked After Children
Including children previously in state care outside England who were adopted after leaving that care. -
Children with a Sibling at the Academy
A sibling must be attending Sunnyside Primary Academy at the time of application and admission. -
Children Living Closest to the Academy
Priority is given to children who live nearer to Sunnyside Primary Academy than to any other school. -
All Other Applicants

Admissions Appeals
If your application for a place at Sunnyside Primary Academy is unsuccessful, you have the right to appeal to an Independent Appeals Panel.
Appeals must be submitted within 20 school days of receiving the decision letter.
Appeals are administered by West Northamptonshire Council and must be submitted using the online appeals form available via the West Northamptonshire Council Appeals website.

Infant Class Size Limit
Please note that legislation limits infant classes (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) to a maximum of 30 pupils per class teacher. Admissions above this limit are only permitted in limited circumstances, as set out in the School Admissions Code.
